Hood College in Frederick, MD seeks a faculty member to teach undergraduate and graduate courses with a primary focus on PreK–grade 6 literacy education. Undergraduate courses are day, on-campus; graduate courses are online year-round, in the evening, synchronously or asynchronously.
Responsibilities include developing syllabi, assessing student work, maintaining office hours, advising, and serving as Director of the Reading Specialization graduate program, including coordinating the Summer
The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses,with a primary focus on PreK-grade 6 literacy education.Undergraduate courses are typically offered during the day and arein-person on campus, during the fall and spring semesters. Graduatecourses are currently all online and offered year-round, oneevening a week, either synchronously or asynchronously, at thediscretion of the instructor.
The faculty member will provide service to the department and theCollege. Common examples of service in the Department of Educationinclude, but are not limited to, advising students, supportingdepartment initiatives and events, supporting Admissions events,active membership on department and College committees, directingprograms as needed, and supporting the department’s accreditationprocess. As stated above, this faculty member will direct thereading specialization graduate program as one aspect of theirservice to the department and the College.
The faculty member will routinely engage in scholarship activities,including conducting research and disseminating research andacademic papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferencepresentations. Engaging in scholarship with students is highlyencouraged.
Weekly Work Hours: 37.5, 10-month contract

Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint,and Outlook). Ability to learn new applications quickly includingorganization-wide information systems such as the BlackboardLearning Management System and department-specific softwareapplications.
Strong English oral and written communication skills. Ability toeffectively provide information and positively respond to questionsand inquiries from both external and internal stakeholders inperson, through email and by phone.
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have theability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goalsetting, and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusionsfrom reports and make cost effective decisions regardingprograms.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number ofconcrete variables in situations where only limited standardizationexists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished inwritten, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to workindependently and as a member of a group in developing andexecuting project plans. Ability to work in the theoretical arenaand apply logic as appropriate.

The salary for this position ranges from $60,000.00 to $65,000.00depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills andqualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior jobexperience, training, and other relevant factors. Additionalcompensation for work completed beyond the minimum contractedteaching load may be provided. Hood College has provided acompensation range representing its good faith estimate of what theCollege may pay for the position at the time of posting. TheCollege may ultimately pay more or less than the postedcompensation range.
