Hood College seeks an adjunct Clinical Instructor in Nursing to supervise and direct pre-licensure nursing students in clinical and/or lab settings across multiple content areas. The role emphasizes integration of theory and practice, feedback, and alignment with program outcomes.

Under the direction of the Nursing Department Chair, the ClinicalInstructor (adjunct position) provides supervision and direction ofpre-licensure nursing students in the clinical and/or laboratory inthe following courses/content areas of Nursing Fundamentals, AdultHealth, Maternal Health, Pediatrics and Mental HealthNursing.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should haveexcellent skills in the following: knowledge of patientmedications, treatments, and diagnoses, and be able to relate theseaspects of patient care to problem solving/critical thinking skilldevelopment in the student. Possess leadership qualities, beorganized, able to deal appropriately with delicate situations, andable to effectively communicate and negotiate resolutions withfaculty, students, and facility staff regarding problems in theclinical setting.

Clinical instructors must hold an active Registered Nurse (R.N.)license in the State of Maryland, possess at least two years ofrecent clinical experience in the relevant specialty area, and havea minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); a Master ofScience in Nursing (MSN) is preferred. Instructors must alsodemonstrate expertise and practical knowledge in the specificcontent area they are assigned to teach.
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, andPowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applicationsquickly including organization-wide information systems anddepartment-specific software applications.
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability toeffectively provide information and positively respond to questionsfrom both external and internal customers both in person and byphone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have theability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goalsetting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusionsfrom reports and make cost effective decisions regardingprograms.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number ofconcrete variables in situations where only limited standardizationexists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished inwritten, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to workindependently and as a member of a group in developing andexecuting project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena andapply logic as appropriate.

The compensation for Adjunct instructors teaching nursing clinicalis paid an hourly rate of $59.00 depending on the clinical creditsrequired for the course. A stipend will be paid for the orientationof new instructors. Hood College has provided a compensation amountrepresenting its good faith estimate of what the College may payfor the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimatelypay more or less than the posted compensation.
