Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Fairmont State University seeks candidates for a full-time,tenure-track faculty position beginning in August 2027 in oursmall, student-centered, collaborative, and ACS -approved chemistryprogram. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or closelyrelated field prior to the start date of the position. Thesuccessful applicant will have the primary responsibility oft eaching foundational biochemistry and advanced biochemistrycourses and laboratories, and is expected to collaborate withdepartment faculty in the development of a biochemistry curriculumfor a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry. We anticipateadditional teaching responsibilities for this position to include,but not limited to, introductory chemistry lectures andlaboratories for both majors and non-majors. Chemistry faculty teach 15 contact hours per semester (includinglaboratories). Faculty also mentor students in undergraduatestudent projects and clubs, serve on university and collegecommittees, rotationally serve as chemistry program coordinator,help maintain instrumentation and shared laboratory space, conductprogram and course assessment, and participate in department andprogram activities. Scholarship is expected and can take manyforms. Preference will be giving to candidates with undergraduateteaching experience. We encourage applications fromunderrepresented groups. A demonstrated commitment to improvingaccess to higher education for disadvantaged students throughteaching or mentoring activities is desired. The ability tocontribute to ongoing student-driven projects in e.g., chemistry,environmental, forensic science, and/or biochemistry, isencouraged.
