Job summary

University of Hawai'i at Manoa, College of Education, Department of Learning Design & Technology, is hiring an Assistant Professor for Learning Design and Technology. The position requires a doctorate and a strong record in teaching, research, and service.

The role involves teaching across modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid), advising graduate students, maintaining an active research program, and contributing to accreditation processes.

Qualifications

• An earned doctorate in Learning Design and Technology, Educational Technology or closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing; ABD candidates will be considered if the degree is conferred by date of hire.
• Evidence of research productivity.
• Evidence of successful face-to-face, online and hybrid teaching.
• Evidence of expertise with innovative and emerging technologies (e.g., AI in educational practice, learning analytics, XR, CS in education) with emphasis on applying these tools to build student workforce skills and tech literacy.
• Coursework in or expertise with multiple research methodologies.
• Evidence of strong interpersonal/collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively through diverse media.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including doctoral level research courses in face-to-face, online and/or hybrid formats.
• Advise graduate students in traditional and distance education modes.
• Hold regular in-person office hours to support student learning and engagement.
• Attend in-person departmental and college meetings.
• Maintain an active program of research and publication.
• Participate in accreditation processes, including documentation and report preparation.
• Provide service to the department, college, university, and community.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
