Job summary

Marist University’s School of Communication & the Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Studio Art. The successful candidate will teach a wide range of studio courses (Fundamentals of Art and Design, Drawing, Painting and 3D Design) and participate in a collaborative academic environment.

The ideal candidate will contribute to an inclusive learning community, engage in scholarly and creative work, and advise students while collaborating with departments

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (MFA) in Studio Art is required.
  • At least three years of undergraduate Studio Art teaching experience.
  • A professional portfolio demonstrating high artistic achievement and proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 3-4 course load of 100–400 level Studio courses (Fundamentals of Art and Design, Drawing, Painting and 3D design).
  • Promote innovation with technology in the Maker Lab and encourage experimentation in creating artwork using traditional and newer processes.
  • Conduct research and/or creative work in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Engage in academic advising, assessment, and service to the institution and discipline.
  • Supervise student groups.
  • Teach First Year Seminar courses when possible.

Job Summary:

The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist Universityinvites applications for a full-time, tenure-track AssistantProfessor in Studio Art. The successful candidate must be able toteach a wide range of studio courses (such as Fundamentals of Artand Design, Drawing, Painting and 3D Design).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree (MFA) in Studio Art.
  • At least three years teaching experience in Studio Art at theundergraduate level.
  • A professional portfolio demonstrating a high level of artisticachievement and proficiency in the candidate’s area ofspecialization.
Essential Functions:
  • Teach a 3-4 course load of 100 – 400 level Studio courses(Fundamentals of Art and Design, Drawing, Painting and 3Ddesign).
  • Promote innovation with technology in the Maker Lab andencourage experimentation in creating artwork using any number oftraditional and newer processes.
  • Conduct research and/or creative work in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Engage in academic advising, assessment, and service to the institution and to the candidate’s academic discipline/profession.
  • Supervise student groups.
  • Faculty will be encouraged to teach First Year SeminarCourses.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience teaching at the college level.
  • Experience teaching students with varying levels of artisticexperience and technical proficiency.
  • Experience mentoring students in artistic development,portfolio preparation, exhibitions, or career pathways.

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduatecredit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee,spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • University pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semestertowards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department/School:

The programs of the Department of Art and Digital Media givestudents the opportunity to develop as artists, designers, digitalmedia creators, and scholars in facilities that support bothtraditional media, such as painting and sculpture, and the latestdevelopments in new media. The programs are housed in the newlyrenovated and expanded Steel Plant, with four state-of-the-artdigital labs, new traditional media studios, a Maker Lab equippedwith new fabrication machines including 3D printers, large format2-D printers, and laser cutter, as well as an interior garden withcafé and gallery that exhibits regional and international artistsas well as the work of our students.

The Art and Digital Media Department is part of the School ofCommunication and the Arts, which prepares students for careers incommunication, media, fashion & art practices, buildingvaluable skills that complement a foundation in a liberal artseducation.
