Carleton College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Philosophy starting September 1, 2027. We encourage applicants from under-represented groups. The AOS includes philosophy of computing, AI ethics, philosophy of technology, data science ethics; AOC includes logic and formal epistemology.

The teaching load is 5 courses per year on a trimester calendar, with 4 courses in the first year. PhD required before start; competitive salary range offered.

Qualifications

• AOS: Philosophy of computing and/or AI ethics and/or philosophy of technology and/or philosophy of data science and/or data ethics
• AOC: Logic and/or formal epistemology
• Commitment to excellent teaching in a liberal arts setting
• PhD must be completed before the start of employment

Responsibilities

• Teach a 5-course load per year on a trimester calendar (Fall, Winter, Spring 10-week terms) with 4 courses in the first year
• Teach a mix of introductory- and advanced-level courses relevant to technology, CS, or data science for Philosophy majors and other students
• Engage in high-quality scholarship and participate in a collegial department environment
