Job description

COLBY COLLEGE, Waterville, ME. Assistant Professor in Philosophy, beginning September 1, 2023. 4.5 courses per year to include one introductory course in Philosophy of Mind/Artificial Intelligence, and three additional courses from candidate’s AOC and AOS.

AOS: Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, Philosophy of Mind/Cognitive Science.

AOC: Philosophy of Technology, Philosophy of Information. Competence in the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence is also desirable.

Through a generous gift that created the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Colby College is hiring an interdisciplinary cluster of four faculty members and two postdoctoral associates over the next two years. Faculty at Colby have numerous opportunities to collaborate on research and teaching related to AI; currently there are faculty pursuing AI-related scholarship in geology, anthropology, music, physics, economics, east Asian studies and computer science. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community. ABD or Ph.D. in Philosophy and evidence of teaching excellence required.
