Job description

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: HEALTH SCIENCES (HIM)

This tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Health Sciences will teach professional health science courses, engage in scholarly research, serve on departmental and college committees, and participate in professional activities, including internal and external conferences and seminars. The assistant professor will perform other duties within the range of skills normally associated with a faculty position of this classification in an evolving teaching and learning environment within an integrated learner-centered academic program.

Responsibilities
  • Teach didactic and experiential programs in the classroom, laboratory, or online.
  • Engage in active scholarly activities.
  • Provide services to College, University, and Community.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Education

Ph.D. degree in a public health or health‑related field.

Required Licensing/Certification
  • A certification as a registered Health Information Manager (RHIA) or Nutritionist will be preferable.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Multiple disciplines in health science
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
  • Health information and nutrition.

Skill in:

  • Problem‑solving and decision‑making.
  • Strong time management.
  • Interpersonal communication.
  • Verbal and written communication.

Ability to:

  • Lead the development or modification of work procedures in the discipline or function for virtually any situation.
  • Work independently.
  • Show strong commitment to teaching and scholarship.
  • Work with students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Work Experience
  • Capability to teach in different Health Science programs.
  • History in health sciences’ counseling and education, research in the health sciences, knowledge of biochemistry.
  • Prior experience teaching at the undergraduate level in didactic, laboratory courses and online (2‑3 years desirable).
  • Prior scholarly activity in an area of interest is desirable.
Working/Environmental Conditions
  • Prolonged standing and/or walking.
  • Using or carrying equipment.
