The Department of Psychology at Montclair State University invitesapplications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position inHealth Psychology beginning in August 2027. We seek a dynamic andcollaborative colleague whose expertise in Health Psychology willcontribute to a coordinated departmental initiative to expandHealth Psychology across undergraduate, graduate, and onlineprograms. This position represents an exciting opportunity to joinone of the largest psychology departments in the region and to playa central role in building a distinctive Health Psychology presencethat integrates research, education, and community impact.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate andgraduate instruction in their area of expertise and maintain anactive and productive research program. Responsibilities includepublishing in high-quality scholarly journals, pursuing externalfunding opportunities, mentoring student researchers, andcontributing to the department's growing national reputation forresearch excellence.

Teaching

The standard annual teaching load for a tenure-track faculty is 12 teaching credit hours (TCH) a semester, with additional TCH reassigned time (course release) available for faculty with additional responsibilities such as mentoring doctoral faculty or administering programs. Faculty are expected to center student success and measurable learning outcomes through clear course design, inclusive pedagogies, and the integration of emerging disciplinary and pedagogical developments. Responsibilities include classroom instruction, student mentoring and advising, and developing and updating courses and curricula aligned with student demands and institutional strategic priorities.

Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity:

Faculty are expected to be productive scholars or artists whose work embodies formal inquiry or creative expression that expands, enhances, or applies knowledge. Research results must be shared insignificant national and/or international scholarly or artistic venues following rigorous review. The University supports these endeavors through the Faculty Scholarship Program (FSP), which typically provides research-active faculty with up to 6 TCH of reassigned time per academic year to pursue their scholarly agenda.

Service

Faculty members are expected to perform valuable service to the department, college/school, university, and professional communities. This includes participating in shared governance, academic program vitality, and sharing professional expertise within and beyond the University. Service activities are separate and distinct from the specific assignments for which faculty members receive course release.

THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

The Psychology Department—organized into the three broad categories of clinical, industrial/organizational (I/O), and psychological science—serves a large and diverse constituency of students, and comprises a vibrant group of 35 full-time faculty, in addition to several emeriti faculty and support staff. The Department continues to expand its national profile, with 20 active research labs, over 3.5 million dollars in extramural funding, and PhD programs in both clinical and I/O psychology—in addition to popular MA and certification programs in clinical psychology, I/O psychology, psychological science, and advanced quantitative methods. The research interests of our faculty include neuroscience, neurodegenerative diseases, and neurocognitive aging; cognitive processes such as memory, the brain reward system, decision-making, perceptual processing, and spatial cognition; internalizing psychological disorders and trauma; forensic investigation, plea bargaining, and forensic and correctional assessment and treatment; language and life span development; motivation; pedagogy; effective leadership, mentorship, and supervision; organizational behavior; employee well-being, aging, and longevity; emotions and ethics in the workplace; and social attitudes, discrimination, diversity science, and social justice.

THE COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is Montclair State’s largest college, with over 5,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. CHSS facilitates traditional and interdisciplinary learning and is the professional home of many outstanding scholars and instructors across numerous disciplines, all of whom lend to CHSS’s mission to furnish academically rigorous and relevant programs of study that contribute to the development of an informed and engaged civil society. QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

• Earned PhD in Psychology
• Record of achievement and potential for future success inresearch, scholarship or creative activity.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching all students.
• A record that demonstrates interest and commitment toservice.

PREFERRED

• Preferred candidates will have a PhD in health psychology or aclosely related subfield, with demonstrated excellence in teaching.We are open to subareas of specialization, and welcome candidateswhose work addresses contemporary challenges in health andwell-being, including behavioral health, chronic diseasemanagement, health equity, prevention science, aging, stress andresilience, digital health, and social determinants of health.Consideration will also be given to candidates who complementexisting Department strengths in clinical psychology and I/Opsychology.
