Job Description

The D epartment of English at Mount Holyoke College invitesapplications for an Assistant Professor of English who will holdthe Suzan-Lori Parks '85 Chair in Creative Writing.

We seek a writer with a strong record of publication in creativenonfiction, including work in areas such as the personal essay andmemoir, lyric essay, cultural criticism, science and environmentalwriting, literary journalism, and hybrid forms. Additionalinterests in fiction, translation, graphic narratives, podcasting,performance writing, experimental writing, and oral history arewelcome. Mount Holyoke students are excited to learn from a writerwhose work engages questions of race and ethnicity, particularly inrelation to African American, Asian American, Indigenous, and/orLatinx literary lineages.

The position entails teaching introductory multi-genre creativewriting courses, as well as advanced courses in creative nonfictionand other topics, for a total of 2 courses per semester. Thesuccessful candidate will collaborate within and beyond the Englishdepartment to build our creative writing community andculture—through our InterArts Council and nationally renownedGlascock Intercollegiate Poetry Competition, as well as throughthesis advising and mentoring of student literary projects.

We welcome candidates who demonstrate excellence instudent-centered, reflective, and inclusive teaching practices andwho display a robust commitment to collaboration andinterdisciplinarity. The successful candidate will have ademonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate leveland experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse withregard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender,nationality, sexual orientation, disability, and religion.
