Job summary

MassBay Community College in Framingham seeks an Assistant Professor of ADN to join the Dean Nursing and Health Sciences. Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-accesscommunity college, offering associate degrees and certificateprograms on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, andAshland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community, andhave a desire and ability to serve a population of students withvarious needs and backgrounds. Faculty members are responsible fordeveloping educational and evaluation materials consistent with thephilosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College,Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) and AccreditationCommission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) requirements. Thefaculty member is responsible for maintaining a currentMassachusetts Registered Nursing license and expertise in theirnursing specialty. We seek enthusiastic, competent, positive,diverse, and compassionate nursing faculty to help us develop andshape the next generation of nursing professionals.

The faculty member participates in the instruction, review, andevaluation of nursing courses and in assessing student performance.This faculty member participates in departmental, division, andcollege-related committees, governance, and activities.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Demonstrate teaching effectiveness in the classroom, lab, andclinical area;
  • Oversee and work with students in the clinicalenvironment;
  • Teach pre-licensure nursing students across the nursingcurriculum;
  • Develop instructional material consistent with courseobjectives and aligned with faculty program planning;
  • Assign, supervise, and evaluate students in the clinicalsetting;
  • Participate in shared governance consistent with BORNregulations and ACEN standards;
  • Collaborate with faculty colleagues and nursing program staffto develop, support, and implement the philosophy, conceptualframework, objectives, and policies of the program;
  • Collaborate with professionals in clinical settings;
  • Actively participate in course refinement and programevaluation;
  • Collaborate with all faculty colleagues to develop a nursingcurriculum plan that shall provide a variety of learningexperiences consistent with the program mission, philosophy, andnursing education outcomes;
  • Work collaboratively and with flexibility with the SimulationServices of the Division through effective use of simulation andcomputer technologies in the classroom and lab;
  • Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to promotestudents' critical thinking skills;
  • Actively participate in the Systematic Evaluation Plan(SEP);
  • Serve as an adviser to nursing students and potential nursingstudents;
  • Serve on departmental, division, and college committees;
  • Maintain current expertise in teaching through professionaldevelopment;
  • Participate in weekly meetings, special events, pinning, andgraduation, some outside of regular work hours;
  • Adhere to Massachusetts Community College Contract includingbut not limited to:
Contract Duties:
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students;
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
  • Serve on College committees (college governance) as elected orappointed;
  • Attend Division, Department, and Committee meetings;
  • Serve on Nursing Program committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Hold a current unencumbered Massachusetts Registered Nurselicense in good standing, or able to obtain for out of stateapplicants;
  • Master of Science in Nursing degree from a regionallyaccredited institution of higher education in the U.S.;
  • Possess a minimum of two years full-time experience in nursing,or its equivalent, within the last five years and evidence ofclinical competence;
  • Excellent communication skills including oral, written, andpresentation skills;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and ability toquickly learn new software requirements;
  • Commitment to the use of new learning technologies;
  • Maintain Health Care Provider CPR level appropriate to teachingresponsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affir
  • Experience working in a community college or similarenvironment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need;
  • Five years of nursing experience;
  • 1-2 years of academic classroom & clinicalexperience;
  • Demonstrated curriculum development and implementation;
  • Familiarity with the accreditation process.

Salary Range:

These salary ranges are for a Master’sDegree.

$74,000 - $87,325, in accordance with one's education andexperience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreementclassification compensation structure.
