The Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure-trackfaculty position at the Assistant Professor rank, specializing inAI/Machine Learning, beginning in Fall 2027. Successful candidateswill be expected to establish or sustain a nationally recognized,externally funded research program; teach undergraduate andgraduate courses; mentor students; and contribute to professional,departmental, college, and university service. Candidates shouldhave a strong methodological foundation and research expertise inat least one of the three areas: research, teaching andservice.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. inindustrial and systems engineering or a closely related field bythe appointment date. Successful candidates are expected toestablish a nationally recognized, externally funded researchprogram and contribute to the department’s teaching mission.Candidates must demonstrate strong potential for excellence inscholarship, teaching, and service and for securing competitiveresearch funding.

The Department

The ISE Department has 24full-time faculty members and approximately 900 students enrolledin bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. Thedepartment is experiencing rapid growth in both research activityand student enrollment. Faculty members have opportunities tocollaborate with colleagues across the university and in theHouston community in areas including supply chain, logistics,transportation, energy, power systems, resilience, smart cities,sustainability, and manufacturing.
