Description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Cullen College of Engineering and the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Translational Neuroengineering and Dementia Science. This search is part of the University's Presidential Frontier Faculty initiative, which is a university-wide interdisciplinary hiring campaign aimed at enhancing the UH research enterprise by integrating the strengths of existing faculty and infrastructure with strong early career new faculty hires. The position will be jointly appointed between Biomedical Engineering and the College of Medicine, with Biomedical Engineering serving as the primary academic home with an anticipated start date of Fall 2027. It is intended to connect UH’s strengths in dementia and brain-health research with expertise in neurotechnology, biosensors, biomedical imaging, bioelectronics, artificial intelligence, and digital health.

The successful candidate will establish an independent, well-funded internationally recognized research program focused on engineering-enabled approaches to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Areas of interest include digital and neural biomarkers; wearable and home-based monitoring; neurotechnology and noninvasive interventions; mechanisms and biomarkers of neurodegeneration; and AI-based modeling of dementia risk, progression, and treatment response. Research addressing equitable diagnosis and care in underserved populations is particularly encouraged.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree along with strong postdoctoral or equivalent research training, an excellent scholarly record, expertise in computational methods or technology development, and a credible plan for obtaining independent extramural funding. The successful candidate will collaborate across engineering, medicine, neuroscience, population health, and community-engaged research and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.

Employees are expected to have a home address in the state of Texas for the duration of their appointments.

Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidates.

All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Individuals conducting research in critical infrastructure areas (i.e., communication infrastructure systems, cybersecurity systems, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment systems, and/or water treatment facilities) are subject to regular review to ensure the security and integrity of the research is maintained.

The University of Houston System and its universities are Equal Opportunity Institutions. Everyone is encouraged to apply.
