Job summary

The University of Georgia’s Grady College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track journalism faculty position to begin in August 2027. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. courses; publish peer‑reviewed research; mentor graduate students; and contribute to college service.

Duties allocate 50% teaching, 45% research, 5% service across media law, AI, and more. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication (ABD considered).

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication (or related field with journalism research).

  • A strong research agenda focused on journalism, news, or informational media.
  • Interest in mentoring graduate students and engaging diverse learners.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in media law, AI, political communication, media history, multimedia journalism, and media management.

Position Summary

The Department of Journalism and the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication invites applications for a full-time, tenure‑track faculty position in journalism to begin in August 2027. The successful candidate must be able to teach effectively in the journalism curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels and in the college’s Ph.D. program, regularly publish peer‑reviewed research in the field, mentor graduate students, and contribute to service to the college. The effort allocation for the position is 50% teaching, 45% research, and 5% service.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication, or a Ph.D. in a related field that includes a stream of journalism‑or mass‑communication‑related research. ABD candidates also will be considered.

Additional Requirements
  • The successful candidate will have a research agenda in areas related to journalism, news, or informational media.
  • The candidate should demonstrate a strong or potential research record with peer‑reviewed publications.
  • The candidate should have an interest in mentoring graduate students and engaging students from diverse backgrounds.
  • The candidate should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise, including but not limited to media law, new technology/AI, political communication, media history, multimedia journalism, and media management.
