If so, we have an exciting opportunity! Flour Bakery + Cafe is hiring an Assistant Production Pastry Chef for our commissary in the Seaport. This role involves working closely with owner Joanne Chang and the Flour team to uphold our mission.
The Assistant Production Pastry Chef manages the commissary kitchen, reports to the Production Pastry Chef, and supports team development through coaching and training. Success involves maintaining high product standards and fostering team growth.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Maintain open communication with management, pastry teams, and retail staff.
- Attend weekly meetings with the production pastry chef and assistant chefs.
- Support bakers by troubleshooting, assisting with menu changes, and managing workload.
- Maintain professionalism and a calm demeanor.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and storage areas.
- Adhere to sanitation standards and keep ServSafe certification current.
- Monitor product quality by tasting and inspecting pastries daily.
- Hire, train, and coach team members, participating in staff reviews.
- Be approachable and attentive to staff needs and concerns.
- Prepare production lists and manage inventory, including weekly reporting.
- Maintain communication platforms and manage vendor orders.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years professional pastry experience.
- At least 1 year management experience preferred.
- Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness to learn and accept feedback.
- Passion for high-quality food and pastry.
- Experience coaching and developing team members.
