Job summary

Scholastic in New York City is seeking a Trade Paperback Reprints Assistant Production Editor to oversee production of approximately 55 trade paperback reprint editions per year, as well as boxed sets and other collections. You will ensure QA of text and illustrations and keep editors and designers on schedule.

You will supervise freelancers for copyediting and proofreading of cover copy and typeset text, generate status reports, and liaise with Editorial and Design to maintain series

Qualifications

• Strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation knowledge.
• Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
• MAC proficiency with Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

• Oversee production of approx. 55 Trade paperback reprint editions annually, plus boxed sets and other collections.
• Check quality assurance of text and illustrations at all production stages.
• Keep editors and designers on schedule and coordinate with vendors and teams.
• Liaise with Editorial on deliverables and with Design on layouts and covers; traffic materials between parties.
• Create status reports and lead department/project meetings; ensure series consistency and deliverables.

Job Description:NOTE: This role is based in New York City and encourages a minimum of two days per week in the SoHo office. Some roles or teams may require additional in-office attendance if the essential functions of the role require it.THE OPPORTUNITYThe Trade Paperback Reprints Assistant Production Editor oversees production of approx. 55 Trade paperback reprint editions of chapter books, novels, and nonfiction, as well as boxed sets and other collections of paperback editions of backlist titles, approx. 5 per year. Checks for quality assurance of text and illustrations at all stages of production leading to finished products. Responsible for keeping editors and designers on schedule. Oversees freelancers, for copyediting and proofreading of cover copy, typeset text, and covers.Generates status reports and liaises with all members of the project teams to enforce best practices and schedules.RESPONSIBILITIESManage book production for all conversion titles (previously printed hardcovers made into paperbacks), boxed sets (slipcase cover), and miscellaneous Trade original titles (as necessary but based on previously printed books), along with any associated editions, including: liaising with Editorial on deliverables, assigning and reviewing copy edits and proofreads of deliverables; liaising with Design on layouts and covers; trafficking materials among vendors, Editorial, and Design; and keeping all parties in sync with series consistency, schedules, and deliverables.For high-profile or complex titles, adding additional steps such as supplemental meetings and documentation.Create status reports and lead and/or participate in department and project team meetings; follow up on meeting results.About ScholasticFor more than 100 years, Scholastic Corporation (NASDAQ: SCHL) has been meeting children where they are – at school, at home and in their communities – by creating quality content and experiences, all beginning with literacy.
