hipton-Ross is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for a contract opportunity in New York, NY.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
- 1-3 years of experience in Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, Production, or a related apparel industry role.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and eager to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Product Manager supports the end-to-end product development and production process. Working closely with the Associate Product Manager and cross-functional teams including Merchandising, Design, Technical Design, Materials, Sourcing, and suppliers, this role helps drive the seasonal development process from concept through production. The Assistant Product Manager is responsible for coordinating key development activities, maintaining accurate product data, monitoring timelines, and helping ensure products are delivered on time, meet quality standards, and support business objectives.
- Support the execution of the seasonal product development process from concept through production under the direction of the Associate Product Manager and Director.
- Partner with Merchandising, Design, Technical Design, Materials, Sourcing, and suppliers to help ensure product development milestones are achieved on schedule.
- Manage assigned development activities, including sample tracking, fit approvals, material approvals, costing follow-up, and production timelines.
- Maintain and update accurate product information, specifications, costing details, and development status within PLM and other business systems.
- Coordinate day-to-day communication with internal teams and suppliers to support timely execution of development and production objectives.
- Monitor development calendars and Track & Action (T&A) milestones, proactively identifying potential delays and escalating concerns as appropriate.
- Assist with supplier communication and follow-up to support product quality, on-time delivery, and adherence to brand expectations.
- Prepare reports, analysis, meeting materials, and status updates to support seasonal milestone reviews and decision-making.
- Support sample management, product review meetings, and cross-functional development reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency, communication, and workflow execution within the product development function.
- Support the Associate Product Manager and Director in achieving category objectives related to quality, delivery, and financial performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Core Competencies & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising, Product Development, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and supplier partners.
- strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic understanding of product costing, sourcing, and production processes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
- Experience within a retail, wholesale apparel, or consumer products organization preferred.
- Exposure to Discounters and Club business is a plus.
- Working knowledge of the apparel product development process and product lifecycle.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; experience with PLM systems preferred.
