Job summary

Poughkeepsie City School District invites qualified candidates for the 2026-2027 Assistant Principal of School Climate and Culture at Poughkeepsie High School. Under the Building Principal, the AP will plan, implement, supervise and evaluate student conduct, attendance, and at-risk behavior to support student success.

Candidates must hold NYS SDA or SBL, NYS School Social Worker certification, at least five years’ experience, and strong interpersonal skills with restorative practices.

Qualifications

• Must have NYS SDA or SBL certificate by appointment.
• Must be an instructional leader with knowledge of teaching and learning theories.
• Must hold NYS Certification as a School Social Worker.
• Minimum of five years of successful school district experience.
• Expertise in technology and computer-based platforms.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, supervise, coordinate and evaluate student conduct, attendance and at-risk behavior.
• Develop and evaluate intervention programs addressing at-risk students.
• Assist in recruiting, interviewing and selecting new faculty and staff.
• Develop disciplinary procedures per district policies and state laws; engage with families and partners.
• Supervise students on campus; monitor lunch, recess, and transition times; reinforce appropriate behavior.
• Coordinate with athletics, extracurriculars, and after-school programs; ensure safety and MTSS/PBIS implementation.
