Job summary

Margaret Chase Smith Community School in Skowhegan, Maine is seeking an Assistant Principal to support the principal and collaborate with a three-administrator team to ensure a high-quality educational experience for Birth–Grade 5 students.

  • Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and/or RTI implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, families, and community members.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to educational equity and a deep understanding of culturally responsive practices.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the principal and dean of students on a three-administrator leadership team to develop and implement the school's vision, goals, and strategic plan.
  • Coordinate with the grant leaders to implement actions set by our Title I, 21st Century and First 10 Community School Grants.
  • Oversee the coordination of district curriculum, instruction, and assessment in alignment with state standards for early childhood through 5th grade.
  • Coordinate with the district RTI Team to manage the RTI process, including progress monitoring, tiered interventions, and data analysis to support student academic and behavioral needs.
  • Conduct observations/evaluations of building staff; design and facilitate high-quality, job-embedded professional development for staff based on the observational data.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and community partners to support student success.
  • Oversee student behavior management systems, including implementing school-wide positive behavior supports.
  • Analyze student achievement, attendance, and discipline data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate the use of data by the staff at the classroom level to inform instructional day to day decisions.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as scheduling, school operations, and staff/student supervision as needed.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the principal/CO administrators.

Education

Job Summary

The Birth-Grade 5 Elementary School Assistant Principal is responsible for supporting the principal and collaborating with a three-administrator team to ensure a high-quality educational experience for all students from birth through 5th grade. This position will focus on student and staff support, curriculum implementation, Response to Intervention (RTI) systems, behavior management, professional development, and data-driven decision making. The Assistant Principal will work closely with teachers, staff, families, and community partners to foster a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment with a whole child/whole family approach.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
