Job summary

GLENVIEW PARK DISTRICT seeks a Substitute Assistant Teacher to support one class daily and assist in others as needed. Responsibilities include supervising children, following lesson plans, and assisting with food distribution in a collaborative team setting.

Qualifications

• Must be 19 years or older and hold a high school diploma.
• Preschool/classroom experience preferred; lead qualified preferred.
• Provide three written character references.
• CPR, First Aid, Food Sanitation certification desirable; obtained on hire.
• Background check satisfactory; Gateways Registry registration required.

JOB SUMMARY

In the role as a substitute Assistant Teacher, you will be assigned to help in one class daily and may assist in others as needed. This position may lead to additional subbing hours as well as teaching classes in the Early Childhood programming area. You will be responsible for supervising children in a safe and educational environment, following the direction of the Lead Teacher, working cohesively with the team, being attentive to lesson plans, and performing food distribution. We are looking for a team player with a love for young children, an energetic personality, enthusiasm, and a willingness to grow with the program. You must also express maturity in thought, work habits, and responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum: 19 years of age with a High School Diploma
• Preference for applicants with preschool experience in a classroom setting, and preferred if lead qualified
• Must provide three written character references
• Professional certification(s) and/or active membership in a professional association desirable. Food Sanitation Certification and CPR, First Aid and Child Heimlich Maneuver certification must be obtained upon hire (training provided)
• Must complete Mandated Reporter online training, medical exam with TB test, up‑to‑date vaccination for TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) and MMR (mumps, measles and rubella), and must complete 15 hours of in‑service training annually (which District will pay for)
• Must have satisfactory background check results
• Must register with Gateways Registry upon hire

SCHEDULING & PAY

• This is a part‑time and substitute position.
• Hours worked per week will vary based on substitution need.
• Starting pay is $17/hour.
