Job summary

Michael Page is seeking an Assistant Preconstruction Manager / Estimator for a Birmingham, AL project portfolio. You will support budgeting, estimating, and proposal development, coordinating with architects, engineers, and internal teams to gather pricing data and prepare competitive bids.

Ideal candidates have a construction-focused degree or hands-on experience, plus strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar field of study - or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Some experience in preconstruction, estimating, project engineering, project management, or design‑build project delivery.
• Understanding of commercial construction means, methods, materials, and project delivery processes.
• Experience developing conceptual budgets and detailed estimates.
• Ability to review drawings, specifications, subcontractor proposals, and project schedules.
• Strong communication, facilitation, organization, and relationship‑building skills.
• Proficiency with software and technology

Responsibilities

• Support the preconstruction team in budgeting, estimating, and proposal development across multiple projects.
• Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and bid packages.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather pricing and project information.
• Help analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to identify scope gaps or risks.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
• Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing, and project benchmarks.
• Participate in value engineering efforts to optimize cost, schedule, and constructability.
• Assist in preparing client presentations, proposals, and conceptual budgets.
• Support project handoff to operations by ensuring all preconstruction documentation is complete and accurate
