Job summary

Tiello has partnered with a well-established structural steel fabricator to recruit an Assistant Plant Manager in Lynchburg, VA. You will co-lead daily fabrication operations, oversee scheduling, manpower planning, quality, safety, and workflow under the Plant Manager.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of fabrication leadership, AWS D1.1 knowledge, and a track record of improving productivity; relocation assistance is available with a clear growth path.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of leadership experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Deep knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding and fabrication standards.
• Experience managing shop personnel and production schedules.
• Strong Excel skills and familiarity with scheduling tools.
• Ability to lead, organize, and communicate in a fast-paced shop.
• Experience with Tekla EPM (PowerFab) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing daily operations of the structural steel fabrication facility.
• Support production scheduling and manpower planning to meet deadlines.
• Coordinate with detailing, project management, purchasing, and shop personnel to maintain workflow efficiency.
• Monitor fabrication progress and identify bottlenecks before they impact production schedules.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and AWS D1.1 fabrication requirements.
• Support quality control initiatives and fabrication best practices.
• Lead and mentor shop supervisors and production personnel.
• Review workload forecasts and assist with resource allocation.
• Utilize Tekla EPM (PowerFab) and company scheduling tools to monitor production performance.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
• Provide leadership support and serve as a key resource for the Plant Manager.
