Job Summary
The Assistant Pastry Chef assists the Pastry Chef and the Executive Chef with daily back‑of‑house operations and personnel functions for assigned and approved BEOs. The role serves as a mentor and ambassador for the organization.
Primary Job Duties
- Work alongside the Pastry Chef to achieve budgeted labor and cost centers.
- Meet daily sales and cost goals.
- Oversee weekly/monthly inventories and ordering of food and supplies.
- Assist with food prep, station cooking, and plating as needed.
- Manage inventory, purchasing, and receiving for front and back of house products.
- Maintain sanitation procedures and organization of work areas in compliance with health code regulations.
- Develop menu standards and maintain presentation quality.
- Conduct daily pre‑shift meetings and line‑ups.
- Ensure open communication between management and team members.
- Adhere to company guidelines as stated in the employee handbook.
- Obtain and maintain the position‑specific licensing.
- Implement departmental SOPs and standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of pastry culinary principles and practices.
- Ability to write routine reports, purchase orders, menus, and correspondences.
- Effective communication in English.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Polished appearance and demeanor.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of company and department rules, policies, and procedures.
- Leadership and mentorship capabilities.
- Responsive communication with Pastry Chef and Executive Chef as needed.
Preferred
- Degree in Culinary Arts or related field.
- Experience with hospitality purchasing systems.
- Previous experience in a busy hotel kitchen.
Minimum Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least three years as a Pastry Chef or in a pastry shop, bakery, or similar field.
- At least one year in a leadership/management position.
Certificates, Licenses, Regulations
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- ServSafe Certification.
