The School of Business at the University of Washington Bothell invites applications for a Tenure-Track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Accounting, effective September 16, 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for a 9-month academic year beginning September 16, 2027. Rank and salary will depend on candidate qualifications and experience.

Duties include teaching across graduate and undergraduate programs and participating in and potentially leading new curricular initiatives, conducting research whose output is aimed at publishing in the top-tier academic journals, contributing and providing leadership in Professional as well as University service at all levels.

Faculty in either position will teach both fundamental and advanced courses at the Undergraduate, MBA, and MS in Accounting levels and will integrate current research and professional developments into teaching. The successful candidate will engage in programmatic thinking, and potential leadership in maintaining and developing new academic programs initiatives consistent with the goals of the Business school. Though our undergraduate curriculum is broadly classified under the traditional labels of Financial, Cost/Managerial, Audit, Tax and Systems, we are looking for candidates who can teach in some of these areas and can design and offer advanced/interdisciplinary courses such as Financial Statement Analysis, Corporate Financial Reporting, Corporate Governance, International Accounting. Accounting Theory, Advanced Auditing, Advanced Tax, Forensic Accounting and fraud, Governmental and not-for-profit Accounting, Accounting Data Analytics, to name a few.

The UW Bothell School of Business is accredited by AACSB and is deeply committed to the success of its faculty in research, teaching, and service. We are well known for our undergraduate, MBA, and MS Accounting programs, and enrollment has been growing at a fast pace. Located 15 miles northeast of downtown Seattle, we work closely with industry leaders as well as smaller, innovative, and rapidly growing companies in software, retail, medical equipment, biotechnology, electronics, and aerospace sectors and with a number of governmental agencies. Our students are drawn from and work in companies such as Alaska Airlines, Amazon, Amgen, Boeing, Costco, Expedia, Google, ICOS, Meta, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nvidia, Phillips, PACCAR, REI, Starbucks, Symetra, T-Mobile, Tableau, and Zillow, as well as in local, State, and Federal government.

We have a Beta Alpha Psi Chapter and an Accounting Club for students who meet the academic requirements for admission to BAP but whose schedule may not permit them to satisfy the service requirements.

The School of Business is an undepartmentalized School and encourages collegiality across the entire faculty. The accounting faculty members should expect to interact with colleagues from other business disciplines. As part of UW tri-campus system, faculty members have complete access to the computing and library resources of the University of Washington, including commonly used financial databases via WRDS.

The base salary range for Assistant Professor will be $16,000 - $19,000 per month and that for Associate Professor will be $20,000- $24,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must have earned a doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in accounting (or a closely related field).

The expectations for the research record are commensurate with rank. For either rank, applicants must have a research record and trajectory of producing high-quality research, including publications in the leading journals of accounting and related fields, as recognized by the academic profession. A record of one or more publications in top-tier accounting journals is required.

Candidates for Associate Professor must have a well-established track record of research and publications, as well as demonstrated teaching effectiveness, and meet the tenure standards of the University of Washington laid out in the UW Faculty Code and the School of Business Guidelines for Promotion and Tenure .

Candidates for Assistant Professor must demonstrate evidence of a track record of research and publications and teaching effectiveness consistent with the potential to achieve tenure in due course at the University of Washington according to UW Faculty Code and the School of Business Guidelines for Promotion and Tenure .
