Job summary

Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis seeks a highly qualified Attorney to serve as Assistant/Associate General Counsel, providing legal advice across banking, corporate, and regulatory matters. You will draft agreements, conduct research, and support governance and SEC-related initiatives in a collaborative environment.

The role requires JD and Indiana bar admission, 3+ years (5 for Associate) of legal experience, and knowledge of commercial banking law.

Qualifications

  • JD degree and bar admission in Indiana preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of legal experience (5 years for Associate GC).
  • Knowledge of commercial and corporate law required.
  • Knowledge of federal housing programs or community development a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and draft contracts and transaction agreements for all areas of the Bank and assist in the negotiation of contracts.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Advise the Bank’s internal clients, including managers, senior officers, and senior management on assigned matters.
  • Render legal opinions on matters affecting the Bank.
  • Assist with review and drafting of Bank policies and procedures.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory and judicial developments that have significance for the Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank System, advise business unit clients accordingly, and assist with responses to regulatory proposals on a Bank and system-wide level.
  • Assist with Corporate Governance and SEC related issues.
  • Participate in various system-wide initiatives and working groups, as assigned.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the General Counsel.

Purpose:

The Assistant/Associate General Counsel provides legal advice and counsel on a wide variety of issues and works with the Bank's business units within an operating framework of confidentiality, privilege, and service excellence in order to seek pragmatic, effective and efficient solutions to the legal needs of the Bank’s business units to help achieve their goals. The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by persons assigned to the job. Position Requirements:
  • JD Degree and graduate or undergraduate degree preferably in business or accounting.
  • Admitted to practice law in a state bar, preferably in Indiana.
  • Knowledge of commercial and corporate law required.
  • Knowledge of banking and secured transactions a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience (for Assistant GC, 5 years for Associate GC).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal housing programs or community/economic development a plus.
  • Ability to work full-time.
  • Must not have been convicted of any civil or criminal charge that would suggest a risk to Bank security.
  • Ability to uphold and model the Bank’s Guiding Principles.

Hiring Range:

Assistant: $130,000 - $153,000, Associate: $144,000 - $170,000 Hiring ranges reflect the base salary that the Bank reasonably expects to pay for a given role and is not inclusive of annual incentive award opportunities, retirement benefits or the value of other health and welfare or other ancillary benefits. We consider many factors when determining base salaries such as individual background and experience, the competitive environment, education, particular skill set(s), and industry and institutional knowledge.
