Job summary

Summary

Assist the Inline Operator, ensuring bags are produced on time and to customer quality specifications, and organize assigned crew for optimal safety, quality, and productivity.

Your Mission
  • Study job order and requisitions for required paper or plastic stock; prepare paper for the production run.
  • Fasten collar; determine proper position of steel collar, fasten with wrench; read steel rules, job order, and apply machine knowledge to determine proper positioning of collar; compute roll length by measuring diameter.
  • Un‑band or unwrap mill rolls; remove wooden core plugs and insert roll shaft through core, fastening into place on shaft with shaft collars.
  • Install paper in machine; operate electric hoist to lift, transport and mount rolls on stationary stands; splice new roll or completed roll using two‑way tape; assist Inline Operator in threading paper into machine.
  • Remove paper from machine; operate hoist to remove used roll; remove collar from right side of spindle, pull spindle out of roll, place collar and spindle on storage rack; measure diameter of partially used roll, record data, tag, and notify lift driver for movement to storage.
  • Visually watch operation; observe flow of paper, notify Tube‑Machine Operator when paper runs loose, push button to stop machine; change and splice new roll when necessary.
  • Help perform all machine cleaning including steaming.
  • Learn how to perform duties under the operator’s instructions, direction, or alone as experience permits.
  • Report maintenance issues to the Inline Operator for immediate corrective action.
  • Comply with all safety rules, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Understand and follow lockout–tagout procedures for assigned equipment.
  • Accurately read and interpret plant order information, complete required forms timely.
  • Follow all SQF policies and procedures, including food safety, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and auditing.
  • Learn machine capabilities to determine if machine can produce specified products on the article.
  • Assist with bag checks to ensure bags meet quality specifications and make machine adjustments as needed.
  • Learn to troubleshoot Inline issues and assist in repairs.
  • Monitor bag quality during production through bag checks and other methods; communicate issues to the operator.
  • Keep work area clean, including sweeping, mopping, picking up, and disposing of trash.
Your Profile
  • Must have experience operating Inline equipment.
  • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Effective presentation skills in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
  • Basic arithmetic skills in all units of measure.
  • Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Handle problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Use hand truck, drum dolly, and electric pallet jack.
  • Use a computer and understand and use computer software.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
Schedule Demands
  • 12‑hour shifts, Day (7 am–7 pm) or Night (7 pm–7 am) with shift differential.
  • Ability to work either shift, including overnight shifts.
Physical Demands
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Climbing ladders and/or stairways.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly for up to 12 hours; over 50 lbs requires two people or assisted lifting device.
  • Read computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (steel‑toe shoes, earplugs, safety glasses, hairnet).
Work Environment
  • Nearby moving mechanical parts.
  • Work on or with high‑voltage equipment (up to 480 V AC).
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Moderate heat (up to 100 °F in summer months).
  • Noise levels up to 90 dB.
