Job summary

UVA Health is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to support the nurse manager in administrative duties, especially during off shifts. You will provide leadership by collaborating with the care team to maintain professional practice standards and participate in quality improvement activities.

The role includes patient care on an as-needed basis, with potential weekly shift assignments and opportunities for growth within a Magnet-recognized academic medical center.

Qualifications

• Education: Nurse must graduate from an accredited program and have a BSN within 5 years of hire.
• Experience: At least two years as a registered nurse.
• Licensure: Virginia RN license and BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises care with high visibility to patients, families, and staff.
• Share accountability for unit goals including patient experience and engagement.
• Staff management: recruitment, retention, coaching, training, scheduling.
• Participates in basic human resource functions under supervision.
• Provides managerial support and participates in Quality Improvement Processes.
• Collaborates with health care team to improve patient outcomes.
• Acts as a resource and coach; supports problem solving and decision making.
• Maintains records for staff competency and quality audits.
• Serves as a role model; participates in committees and shared governance.
• Own professional growth and development; other duties may be assigned.
