Job Overview
Under the direction of and in collaboration with the nurse manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager has 24‑hour accountability for their area(s) of responsibility. This accountability encompasses patient care outcomes, service excellence, human resource issues, fiscal management, quality improvement compliance, and communication. Emphasis should be placed on creating a positive environment that fosters professional growth and retention. This environment is supported by the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) acting as a role model and as a mentor and coach to the staff. Direct Report FTEs = 10‑19.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
- Certification within specialty area within two years of assuming position (required)
- Registered Nurse license required
- Membership in related professional organization preferredMinimum of 2‑3 years of acute care nursing experience required
- 1‑2 years' experience in Progressive Leadership Nursing preferred
Job Responsibilities
- Supports delivery of quality patient care to achieve desired outcomes and participates in developing and revising unit policies and procedures.
- Serves as a clinical and administrative resource to staff; collaborates with physicians and the healthcare team to plan, organize, and evaluate care.
- Assists with overall nursing operations, including annual planning, coordinating patient care during assigned shifts, and managing the unit in the nurse manager’s absence.
- Participates in staffing efforts including interviewing, hiring, orienting, and retaining employees; applies progressive discipline when needed.
- Creates and maintains a supportive work environment that promotes engagement and retention.
- Supports staff development by identifying educational opportunities, collaborating with nurse educators, mentoring employees, and providing ongoing performance feedback.
