TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for Behavioral Health. You will oversee 24-hour operations on the inpatient behavioral health unit, lead nursing staff, ensure quality patient care, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

The role supports staff development, staffing, policy implementation, and patient safety, with twelve-hour night shifts and potential day coverage; orientation and CPI training provided.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Certification within specialty area within two years of assuming position.
  • Registered Nurse license required.
  • Membership in related professional organization preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of acute care nursing experience (required).
  • 1-2 years' experience in progressive leadership nursing preferred.
  • Behavioral Health/Psych Nursing experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports delivery of quality patient care to achieve desired outcomes and participates in developing and revising unit policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a clinical and administrative resource to staff; collaborates with physicians and the healthcare team to plan, organize, and evaluate care.
  • Assists with overall nursing operations, including annual planning, coordinating patient care during assigned shifts, and managing the unit in the nurse manager’s absence.
  • Participates in staffing efforts including interviewing, hiring, orienting, and retaining employees; applies progressive discipline when needed.
  • Creates and maintains a supportive work environment that promotes engagement and retention.
  • Supports staff development by identifying educational opportunities, collaborating with nurse educators, mentoring employees, and providing ongoing performance feedback.

Education

Assistant Nurse Manager - Behavioral Health Full Time Night Shifts - TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital

Job Description

Welcome to the Inpatient Behavioral Health Services Units 10fg and 10hi at TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital, where we specialize in providing compassionate and comprehensive care for adults aged 18 and up. Our unit operates on an acute crisis stabilization model, ensuring that patients receive the urgent care they need to regain stability and well-being. Our multidisciplinary team approach brings together a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and Acute Care Technicians (ACTs). Our collaborative effort ensures that each patient receives personalized and holistic care tailored to their unique needs. We have a dedicated 10 bed geriatric space that focuses on dementia and patients with cognitive impairment. We have 28 other beds for adults experiencing depression and other mental illnesses. Patients on our unit typically stay for an average of 5-7 days, during which they benefit from the expertise and support of our dedicated team. Our staffing model is designed to provide optimal care around the clock, with RNs, LPNs, ACTs, therapists, and social workers. We are available during day, evening, and night shifts. We offer twelve-hour shifts, with a twelve-hour shift every third weekend and a weekend option for those who prefer it. We typically maintain an average patient-to-staff ratio of 1:5. While we prefer nurses with psychiatric/behavioral health experience, we warmly welcome new graduates who are eager to learn and grow in a supportive environment. Join us at the Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, where we are dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of our patients through compassionate care and a collaborative team spirit. We offer a 5–6-week orientation that can be shortened or extended depending upon the new team members learning needs. All new team members attend CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) which is TriHealth’s de-escalation training offered by TriHealth.

  • Full Time Shifts- (40 hrs/week)
  • Primarily night shift but must be able to flex to days as needed for meetings/coverage

Job Overview

Under the direction of and in collaboration with the nurse manager, has 24-hour accountability for their area(s) of responsibility. This accountability encompasses: patient care outcomes, service excellence, human resource issues, fiscal management, quality improvement compliance, and communication. Emphasis should be placed on creating a positive environment that fosters professional growth and retention. This environment is supported by the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) acting as a role model and as a mentor and coach to the staff.
