Carleton College is seeking an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach in the PEAR department. The role supports an NCAA Division III program with evening/weekend hours and a September–March schedule.

Responsibilities include assisting in training, travel, practices, and recruiting, while upholding college values and MIAC/NCAA rules. The successful candidate will help recruit and mentor student-athletes and participate in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree required.
• 1–2 years coaching or playing at the collegiate level.
• Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport, attention to detail; strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in planning and preparing team training, travel, practices, recruiting and teaching student-athletes.
• Participate in recruitment to attract, matriculate and retain outstanding student-athletes.
• Attend meetings with head coach and staff; complete required departmental training and pursue professional development.
• Follow NCAA Division III/MIAC rules, and support students balancing academics and athletics.
• Demonstrate sportsmanship and conduct during practices and contests.

FTE/Working Schedule: 0.10 FTE

Position Overview

Carleton College, a highly selective liberal arts college, seeks to hire an assistant coach in the Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation (PEAR) Department to assist in phases of a successful and competitive NCAA Division III program. Carleton College aims to hire those that share our college values of excellence in education, multiculturalism and service to society. We aspire to hire a coach who will invest in the success and holistic well-being of our entire student-athlete population and provide a highly competitive athletic experience for the students we serve. Some evening and weekend hours are required. The typical working schedule for this position is September through March. Athletic coaching appointments are extended on an annual basis.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this non-benefit eligible position is $1,000-$2,550

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in the planning and preparation of team training, travel, coaching practices, recruiting, and teaching student-athletes
• Share in all aspects of recruitment and identify, attract, matriculate and retain outstanding student-athletes to the college
• Attend meetings related to coaching/teaching: working with the head coach and other staff
• Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate actively in available professional development opportunities
• Comply with the policies, rules, and regulations set forth by the NCAA Division III and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (MIAC), Carleton College and the Athletic Department
• Understand and support students who are balancing multiple responsibilities as students and athletes in a rigorous academic environment
• Demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship and conduct during practices and contests

Education/Experience/Skills

• Required: BA or BS degree
• 1-2 years coaching or playing at the collegiate level
• Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport, attention to detail as well as excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
• Self‑motivated with the ability to help recruit, teach and coach highly talented scholar-athletes who can succeed in a challenging academic environment
• Valid driver’s license
• Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels
