Job summary

Carleton College seeks an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach to assist in training, travel, practices, and recruitment for our NCAA Division III program. This part‑time role requires some evening and weekend hours, with a typical season from September through March and annual coaching appointments.

The position emphasizes commitment to student‑athlete success, ethics, and teamwork within a liberal arts setting.

Qualifications

• BA or BS degree is required.
• 1–2 years coaching or playing at the collegiate level.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to help recruit, teach and coach student‑athletes in a challenging academic environment.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in planning and preparing team training, travel, coaching practices, recruiting and teaching student‑athletes.
• Share in all aspects of recruitment and identify, attract, matriculate and retain outstanding student‑athletes to the college.
• Attend meetings related to coaching/teaching: working with the head coach and other staff.
• Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate in professional development opportunities.
• Comply with NCAA Division III, MIAC, Carleton College and Athletic Department policies and rules.
• Support students balancing academics and athletics in a rigorous environment.
• Demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship during practices and contests.

Job Title: Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

FTE/Working Schedule: 0.10 FTE

Position Overview

Carleton College, a highly selective liberal arts college, seeks to hire an assistant coach in the Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation (PEAR) Department to assist in phases of a successful and competitive NCAA Division III program. Carleton College aims to hire those that share our college values of excellence in education, multiculturalism and service to society. We aspire to hire a coach who will invest in the success and holistic well‑being of our entire student-athlete population and provide a highly competitive athletic experience for the students we serve. Some evening and weekend hours are required. The typical working schedule for this position is September through March. Athletic coaching appointments are extended on an annual basis.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this non-benefit eligible position is $1,000-$2,550

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in the planning and preparation of team training, travel, coaching practices, recruiting, and teaching student‑athletes
• Share in all aspects of recruitment and identify, attract, matriculate and retain outstanding student‑athletes to the college.
• Attend meetings related to coaching/teaching: working with the head coach and other staff.
• Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate actively in available professional development opportunities.
• Comply with the policies, rules, and regulations set forth by the NCAA Division III and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (MIAC), Carleton College and the Athletic Department.
• Understand and support students who are balancing multiple responsibilities as students and athletes in a rigorous academic environment.
• Demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship and conduct during practices and contests.

Education/Experience/Skills

Required:

• BA or BS degree
• 1-2 years coaching or playing at the collegiate level
• Commitment to the student‑athlete, passion for the sport, attention to detail as well as excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
• Self‑motivated with the ability to help recruit, teach and coach highly talented scholar‑athletes who can succeed in a challenging academic environment
• Valid driver’s license.

Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
