  • Coordinate equipment issuance, care, inventory, and uniforms; purchasing of equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise athletes during practice and events; ensure facility security.
  • Submit rosters, awards forms, season records, travel forms and other required documents.
  • Ensure completion of physical examination forms and coordinate injuries with training staff.
  • Attend athletic department meetings; interact respectfully with officials, coaches, staff, and fans.
  • Assist with awards presentations and other duties as assigned by Head Coach/Athletic Director.

Job description

Under the direction of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach will assist in the administration and leadership of the Johnson C. Smith University’s DII Men’s Basketball program. Responsibilities includes but is not limited to: providing coaching and instruction, recruiting, facilitation of player development, scouting, preparation of practice activities and other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The assistant men’s coach will be responsible for cultivating highly competitive programs within the CIAA, NCAA and Johnson C. Smith University’s policies, procedures, and expectations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach will manage and coordinates team activities

The individual will be responsible for assigning duties and responsibilities to assistant coaches

Maintain knowledge of NCAA, CIAA, and Johnson C. Smith University rules and regulations

Assist with game day preparation and practice schedules, assist with weekly scouting reports organizes game day locker room

Oversees out of season planning and workouts, player development

Organizes and monitors recruitment for program, maintains and oversees all necessary compliance paperwork from staff for off campus recruiting, unofficial/official visits, and compliance assistant updates.

Recruits and maintains specific roster sizes for the men’s basketball program; Recruits student-athletes and complete necessary compliance paperwork with regards to recruiting.

Handles the travel and lodging logistics for official visits and student-athlete host.

Assist with coordination of community service activities.

Monitors, assists, and nurtures student-athletes’ academic progress toward graduation at the college and assists with placement at four-year colleges and universities.

Coordinating the issuance, care and inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.

Purchasing equipment, supplies and uniforms.

Supervise athletes at all times from the time practice or activity starts until it is over.

Coordinate the security of all facilities used by the team and coaching staff.

Submit certified rosters, award forms, season records, inventory forms, transportations requests, travel authorization requests, travel expense reports, requisitions and other forms required by the Athletic director.

Ensure the proper completions of physical examinations forms relating to the examinations and to coordinate injuries with the training staff.

Attend athletic department meetings.

Show respect for officials, press, opposing coaches, visiting teams, parents, fans, students, athletes, fellow coaches, and faculty and staff.

Be responsible for awards presentations at awards programs.

Job duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

An individual in this position is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Sometimes will be exposed to outdoor work in inclement and/or hot weather and seasonally be required to work extended days and weekends. There is considerable travel and frequent night and weekend hours involved.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in sports, or a related field. Must demonstrate, intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, and word. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds is an essential skill. Must be able to prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision. Familiarity with NCAA Compliance Assistant, Front Rush, or related system is preferred.

Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
  • Three years’ experience working with college age athletes.
  • Three years’ experience NCAA and CIAA policies.
  • Three years’ experience in recruiting collegiate athletes at the NCAA level.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit student-athletes with potential for academic and athletic success.
