The Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach in managing the varsity swim programs. Key duties include recruiting prospective student-athletes, planning and conducting team practices and competitions, managing social media accounts, and assisting with strength, conditioning, performance, and wellness programs for student-athletes.
The role involves creating and evaluating training programs, managing program finances, and overseeing aquatics and pool operations, including facility management. All duties must comply with policies, rules, and regulations of the NCAA, NESCAC, and Bates College. The position also includes supervising student employees and maintaining the aquatic facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete departmental and professional training, and participate in development opportunities.
- Assist in recruiting qualified student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NESCAC and NCAA guidelines.
- Guide prospective students through the recruitment process.
- Provide leadership and instruction to promote athletic and personal development.
- Monitor student-athletes’ academic eligibility and progress, reporting issues as needed.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant policies, rules, and regulations.
- Manage team expenditures responsibly.
- Support motivation strategies for athletes to perform at their best.
- Participate in fundraising activities and compile recruitment and eligibility data.
- Maintain safety standards for athletes and staff, including equipment and facility conditions.
- Ensure compliance of sport camps and clinics with NCAA and institutional rules.
- Serve as an advisor and mentor to student-athletes, connecting them with campus resources.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the head coach or senior administrators.
Facility Management:
- Develop and implement facility policies and safety procedures.
- Manage operations and scheduling of aquatics programs, including revenue and billing.
- Oversee equipment maintenance and technology.
- Supervise pool access for various user groups.
- Coordinate special events, swim lessons, and revenue-generating activities.
- Participate in staff recruitment, training, and scheduling, including lifeguard certification.
- Assist with staff development, meetings, and onboarding.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- Experience in playing or coaching at the college level preferred.
- Experience supervising young adults and managing programs is desirable.
