Job description

The Assistant Swim Coach supports the Head Coach in managing the varsity swim programs at Bates College. Responsibilities include recruiting prospective student-athletes, organizing team practices and competitions, managing social media accounts, and assisting with strength, conditioning, and wellness programming. The role involves creating training programs, managing budgets, overseeing aquatics operations, and supervising student employees.

Key duties encompass:

1. Completing required training and professional development.
2. Recruiting and guiding student-athletes through the recruitment process, ensuring compliance with NCAA and NESCAC regulations.
3. Providing leadership in athlete development, monitoring academic progress, and enforcing policies.
4. Supporting fiscal management and participating in fundraising activities.
5. Ensuring safety and proper maintenance of athletic facilities and equipment.
6. Mentoring student-athletes and performing additional duties as assigned.

Facility management duties include developing policies, managing operations and scheduling of camps and rentals, overseeing staff, and coordinating special events. The role requires supervising a team of lifeguards and aquatics staff, managing certifications, and working evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred), relevant coaching or playing experience, supervisory skills, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Skills required are excellent communication, interpersonal skills, sport-specific knowledge, and the ability to handle multiple priorities independently and travel as necessary.
