Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Mechanical Engineer in Kansas City, MO to support project teams across power, process, healthcare, airports, and industrial facilities. You will assist in the mechanical design from concept through design completion, modify drawings, and help prepare client presentations while adhering to budgets and design constraints.

You will apply basic engineering concepts, use AutoCAD and Revit, and participate in field inspections and data collection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard mechanical engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem solving environment.
• Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office).
• AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D rendering, hydraulic and HVAC analysis tools experience.
• Strong attention to detail and teamwork abilities.
• Leadership skills; Engineers in Training (EIT) preferred.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Assist in mechanical design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for various facilities.
• Design mechanical components to meet project requirements.
• Apply basic mechanical engineering concepts within projects.
• Assist in research and data compilation for project managers.
• Update drawings in CAD software and verify corrections.
• Support client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Assist in field inspections, measurements, or calculations.
