Job summary

Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace is seeking an experienced Assistant Meat Manager to join our busy meat department operations. The hire will work closely with the Meat Manager to lead the department, prepare high-quality cuts, manage staff, and ensure an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities include butchering, prep, receiving shipments, rotating stock, staff training, cost control, and ensuring safety and labeling compliance while maintaining an organized, customer-friendly department.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience managing a meat department in a grocery store
• Advanced butchering skills, including bandsaw operation
• Excellent English communication skills
• Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Strong knowledge of perishable items, food rotation, and safety standards

At Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace, we cut meat the old-fashioned way— with care, precision, and expertise.

We’re seeking an experienced Assistant Meat Manager to join ourbusy meat department operations! Our new hire will work closely with the Meat Manager to lead the department, prepare high-quality cuts, manage staff, and ensure an exceptional customer experience.

What You’ll Do

Butchering & Prep:

1. Cut and prepare all types of meat using bandsaws, deboning knives, and other tools.
2. Trim, weigh, label, and price meats for customer orders.
3. Receive shipments, inspect for quality, and ensure proper rotation in storage cases.

Department Leadership:

1. Assist with staff management, scheduling, and training.
2. Control department expenses and minimize shrinkage.
3. Ensure associates operate equipment safely.
4. Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and labeling regulations.

Customer Service:

1. Welcome and assist customers with orders.
2. Ensure the Meat Department is organized, attractive, and customer-friendly.

Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 3 years managing a meat department in a grocery store environment.
3. Advanced butchering skills, including bandsaw operation.
4. Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
5. Strong knowledge of perishable items, food rotation, and safety standards.
6. Excellent English communication skills.
7. Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
8. Proven ability to hire, train, and develop a team.

Working Conditions

1. Continuous movement on hard surfaces; frequent bending, reaching, stooping, climbing, and lifting.
2. Lifting up to 30 lbs; heavier or awkward items may require assistance.
3. Indoor environment with machinery noise and exposure to temperature extremes (freezers, ovens, coolers).
4. Occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
