Manager Trainees gain knowledge and experience for promotion to management under the guidance of experienced staff. Duties may be performed personally or through subordinates. Joining Big 5 offers a fast-paced environment with growth opportunities. Responsibilities include customer service, sales, directing customers, answering phones, product descriptions, proposing add-on sales, merchandise retrieval, cleaning, restocking, and organizing on the sales floor. This entry-level role is designed to be transitory, typically lasting 6-18 months before potential promotion. A structured training program supports your development into management. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, energetic, sports-minded with strong customer service backgrounds or relevant education. Enthusiasm for our products is essential. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate the store successfully in the absence of the Store Manager
  2. Drive sales
  3. Open and close the store
  4. Oversee footwear, advertising programs, and other departments
  5. Perform customer sales and service
  6. Ensure merchandising and compliance with company policies
  7. Handle customer inquiries via phone
  8. Set promotional signage and perform other duties as assigned
  9. Enforce company policies
  10. Coach, counsel, and discipline employees as needed
  11. Learn and provide product descriptions
  12. Propose add-on sales
  13. Check and retrieve merchandise from storage
  14. Organize, restock, and clean merchandise on the sales floor
  15. Manage inventory control and loss prevention policies
Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • High School diploma, GED, or relevant experience
  • Basic organizational and math skills
  • Subject to E-Verify upon accepting the position
  • Light to moderate lifting, with or without accommodation
  • Effective communication and interaction skills

California Pay Scale: $16.65 - $19.50/hour depending on location.
