Manager Trainees gain knowledge and experience required for promotion to management positions under the direction of experienced personnel. Duties are performed personally or through the assistance of subordinates. When you join Big 5, you will enjoy a fast-paced work environment with opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to; customer sales and service in the store, directing customers, answering telephones, providing product descriptions, proposing add-on sales to customers, checking and retrieving merchandise from storage areas, cleaning, restocking, and organizing merchandise on the sales floor. This entry-level position is designed to be transitory, generally lasting 6-18 months before promotion to the next level. A well-defined training program will be provided to help you develop into a management position. Openings are generally filled by enthusiastic, energetic, sports-minded people with solid customer service backgrounds and/or relevant educational paths. Enthusiasm for our products is essential. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Responsibilities
  1. Successful operation of store in the absence of the Store Manager
  2. Driving sales
  3. Opening and closing of the store
  4. Direct oversight of footwear, advertising programs, and other departments
  5. Performing customer sales and service
  6. Merchandising and compliance with all company policies
  7. Answering customer inquiries via telephone
  8. Setting promotional signage and other duties as assigned
  9. Enforcement of all company policies
  10. Coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees as needed
  11. Learning and providing product descriptions
  12. Proposing add-on sales
  13. Checking and retrieving merchandise from storage areas
  14. Organizing, restocking, and cleaning merchandise on the sales floor
  15. Inventory control and enforcement of loss prevention policies
Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED, or relevant experience
  • Must possess basic organizational and math skills
  • Upon accepting a position, candidate will be subject to E-Verify
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must possess effective communication skills

California Pay Scale: $16.65 - $19.50/hour depending on store location
