Manager Trainees gain knowledge and experience required for promotion to management positions under the guidance of experienced personnel. Responsibilities are performed personally or through subordinates. When you join Big 5, you will enjoy a fast-paced work environment with opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: customer sales and service, directing customers, answering telephones, providing product descriptions, proposing add-on sales, checking and retrieving merchandise, cleaning, restocking, and organizing merchandise on the sales floor. This entry-level position is designed to be transitory, lasting generally 6-18 months before promotion. A well-defined training program will support your development into a management role. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, energetic, sports-minded individuals with strong customer service backgrounds or relevant educational paths. Enthusiasm for our products is essential. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate the store successfully in the absence of the Store Manager
  2. Drive sales
  3. Open and close the store
  4. Oversee footwear, advertising programs, and other departments
  5. Perform customer sales and service
  6. Merchandise and ensure compliance with all company policies
  7. Answer customer inquiries via telephone
  8. Set promotional signage and perform other duties as assigned
  9. Enforce company policies
  10. Coach, counsel, and discipline employees as needed
  11. Learn and provide product descriptions
  12. Propose add-on sales
  13. Check and retrieve merchandise from storage
  14. Organize, restock, and clean merchandise on the sales floor
  15. Manage inventory control and loss prevention policies
Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent, or relevant experience
  • Basic organizational and math skills
  • Subject to E-Verify upon accepting the position
  • Light to moderate lifting with or without accommodation
  • Effective communication and interaction skills

California Pay Scale: $16.65 - $19.50/hour depending on location.
