Youth Homes is hiring a community-minded Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day operations of the Youth Homes Thrift Shop. In this role, you’ll ensure outstanding service for everyone who interacts with the shop, keep inventory moving efficiently from donation intake to the sales floor, and oversee front- and back-of-house activities. The Assistant Manager supports the Thrift Shop Manager in maintaining a mission-driven, well-run retail environment.
The starting pay for this full-time, non-exempt position is $25.76-$27.05 per hour depending on experience. Work shifts are 30-32 hours per week including regular weekend and evening hours. This position is eligible for benefits.
Key Responsibilities
Point of Sale (POS) Management
Ensure correct use of point-of-sale software by all team members.
Troubleshoot software issues and resolve as needed.
Handle cash, credit, and other transactions accurately and efficiently.
Open and close the shop register.
Review cash sales and prepare accurate weekly deposits.
Operational Support
Work closely with the Shop Manager on operational priorities.
Assist in hiring processes and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Support staff scheduling and coordinate shift changes.
Lead daily processing of donated merchandise; delegate tasks to volunteers and community groups.
Price and tag merchandise across all departments.
Supervise and delegate tasks to youth/DOR employees.
Maintain a clean, organized shop environment.
Monitor supply inventory and notify manager of needed orders.
Customer Service
Welcome and greet customers, creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
Offer insights and ideas to improve customer experience and shop efficiency.
Communication & Collaboration
Maintain clear, effective communication with the Shop Manager and team members.
Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to overall shop success.
Measurements of Success
Quality: Only high-quality items reach the sales floor.
Inventory Flow: Tag 600–800 items per day with no backlog of unprocessed inventory.
Efficiency: Delegate tasks clearly to staff and volunteers.
Preparation: Proactively prepare for volunteer groups, community groups, and special events.
Safety: Maintain clear, safe, and functional processing areas.
Key Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in retail management, preferably in a thrift shop or similar environment.
At least four years of retail or operations management experience.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Proficiency with POS systems and ability to troubleshoot software issues.
Friendly, positive customer service approach.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of thrift store operations, pricing strategies, POS software, financial management, and merchandise handling.
