One&Only Moonlight Basin, Big Sky, MT, seeks an Assistant Manager, Recreation & Leisure to lead daily operations of the Recreation Department, provide hands-on leadership, staffing, scheduling, admin support, and serve as a resource for activities and local attractions.

This role develops innovative programs, cultivates partnerships, resolves guest concerns, and mentors a service-focused team to maintain high standards and exceptional guest experiences.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in Recreation with leadership growth.
• Supervisory experience in ski shop, retail, or hospitality.
• Luxury hospitality experience is strongly preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong multi-tasking in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily operation and admin of the Recreation department.
• Lead on-floor, providing direction to staff across shifts.
• Oversee opening/closing and cleanliness for outstanding guest service.
• Maintain knowledge of Big Sky area and local activities.
• Provide proactive guest service with personalized recommendations.
• Resolve guest questions and complaints with the Manager.
• Develop relationships with guests, VIPs, and homeowners.
• Assist with group event coordination and guest offerings.

Job Summary

The Assistant Manager, Recreation & Leisure, supports the Manager, Recreation & Leisure, in leading the daily operations of the Recreation Department, delivering exceptional guest experiences while curating operational excellence and outstanding service. This position provides hands‑on leadership, including overseeing staffing and scheduling, administrative support, and team development, and serving as a knowledgeable resource for recreation activities, resort amenities, and local attractions throughout Big Sky and the surrounding area. This individual plays an active role in developing innovative programs, cultivating strategic partnerships, resolving guest concerns, and maintaining high standards while continuously improving the Recreation department's offerings.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with the overall daily operation and administration of the Recreation department
• Serve as a visible, hands‑on leader on the floor, providing direction to Recreation staff throughout each shift
• Oversee opening, closing, and cleaning responsibilities to ensure the department is prepared to deliver exceptional guest service
• Maintain a detailed knowledge of Big Sky and the surrounding area, including on‑property activities, off‑property recreation opportunities, local events, and other guest offerings
• Provide proactive guest service by engaging with guests, anticipating their needs, providing personalized recommendations, and creating memorable experiences
• Resolve guest questions, requests, and complaints professionally in conjunction with the Manager, Recreation & Leisure
• Establish strong relationships with guests, returning guests, frequent visitors, VIPs, and homeowners
• Assist with group event coordination, ensuring recreation services are organized, communicated, and delivered
• Perform retail sales, ski and snowboard rental operations, equipment fittings, and other guest‑facing responsibilities, using knowledge of equipment, products, and activities to provide accurate recommendations
• Assist with rental equipment mangement, including organization, maintenance, inventory, storage, and readiness for guest use
• Monitor inventory levels, assisting with ordering, receiving, and control of departmental supplies
• Support departmental revenue goals by identifying opportunities to increase participation, engagement, programs, and sales
• Schedule all Recreation staff effectively based on expected business levels (occupancy, reservations, groups, etc.) while maintaining staffing within budget and forecast guidelines
• Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching colleagues in accordance with company policies
• Develop a highly engaged, service‑oriented team by providing consistent feedback, recognition, development, and coaching opportunities
• Promote a culture of safety, ensuring staff are following appropriate procedures when operating equipment, leading activities, and responding to incidents
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Manager, Recreation & Leisure or other members of management

Skills, Experience, & Educational Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in Recreation with demonstrated growth in leadership
• Previous supervisory experience in a ski shop, retail setting, or hospitality environment
• Experience working in a luxury hospitality environment is strongly preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
• Strong multi‑tasking abilities in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining a high attention to detail
