Reporting Relations
Reports to: District Store Director; Store Manager
Positions reporting to you: All positions except those listed above or designated by the Store Director
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a positive attitude fostering friendliness and teamwork.
- Encourage employees to greet and speak to customers; provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
- Assist customers with their needs, such as locating products, securing out-of-reach items, loading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
- Answer the telephone promptly and courteously.
- Uphold Hy-Vee’s core values of honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring for customers and employees.
- Oversee employee training, handle issues, and coordinate disciplinary procedures.
- Assist in pricing, displays, and ensuring store standards for service, employee relations, and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with store policies, safety procedures, and legal requirements.
- Manage store maintenance, sanitation, and cleanliness.
- Use store hardware and software effectively.
- Assist in labor forecasting and scheduling.
- Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions.
- Train staff on safety procedures and ensure a safe work environment.
- Order merchandise and coordinate compliance with policies and laws.
- Assist with replenishing shelves, designing displays, and solving operational problems.
- Adhere to company policies and work scheduled hours.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
- Motivate employees and create a positive environment.
- Recruit, interview, and participate in onboarding new employees.
- Stay informed about market trends and new products.
- Provide ongoing education to staff on policies and procedures.
- Make recommendations on merchandise and store layout.
- Participate in store operations as needed.
- Handle cash registers and perform related duties.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
- Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret instructions.
- Mathematical skills involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Interviewing and guiding skills, following manuals, and interacting with people.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of retail experience including Assistant Manager duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assigning work, reviewing performance, and managing staff activities.
- Participate in hiring, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
- Visual and physical activities including climbing, standing, lifting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes, and potential hazards. Fast-paced environment.
Equipment Used
Pallet jack, cash registers, computer, forklift, and other store equipment.
Financial Responsibility
Authorized to purchase merchandise, supplies, and order repairs.
Contacts
Daily contact with customers, employees, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Confidentiality
Access to sensitive information including sales, wages, and financial reports.
Hourly wage range: $23.00 to $32.20 depending on experience.
