Job Title: Assistant Manager Store Operations; Assistant Manager Perishables; Assistant Manager Health Wellness Home

Department: Grocery

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Supervises and coordinates the activities of employees to ensure customer needs are met.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home

Positions reporting to you: All positions except those listed above or designated by the Store Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Create a friendly atmosphere encouraging employee-customer interactions and exemplify excellent customer service.
• Assist customers with product location, out-of-reach items, loading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
• Answer calls promptly and courteously.
• Uphold Hy-Vee’s core values of honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring.
• Oversee employee training, handle issues, and coordinate disciplinary actions.
• Assist in pricing, displays, and maintaining store standards for service, employee relations, and profitability.
• Ensure store compliance with accounting, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Utilize hardware and software technology effectively.
• Assist in labor scheduling and evaluate employee performance for promotions or disciplinary actions.
• Train staff on safety procedures and ensure a safe work environment.
• Manage merchandise ordering, display setup, and problem-solving with staff.
• Adhere to company policies and work scheduled hours.

Secondary Duties

• Motivate employees and provide a positive environment.
• Recruit, interview, and orient new employees.
• Stay informed about market trends and new products.
• Provide ongoing training on policies and procedures.
• Participate in merchandising decisions and store projects.
• Engage in retail education and other store duties as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of retail experience, including supervisory duties.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Assign work, review performance, and manage staff activities.
• Assist with hiring, promotions, discipline, and employee issues.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
• Visual and physical activities including climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, and lifting.

Working Conditions

Exposed to dust, noise, temperature extremes, and potential hazards in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Pallet jack, cash registers, knives, safety equipment, computers, and store machinery.

Additional Information
