Job summary

Roundtop Mountain Resort is seeking a motivated safety-driven leader to join our Lift Experience team as Assistant Manager. This winter seasonal role oversees lift operations, coaching leads and operators, and ensuring safe, efficient guest experiences on and off the mountain.

You’ll lead by example in a fast-paced outdoor setting, hire and develop frontline staff, manage scheduling, and partner with departments to deliver world-class hospitality while upholding safety and compliance standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of mountain operations, lift operations, or related resort operations experience.
  • Previous experience leading, training, or mentoring employees.
  • Strong guest service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Workday, Gensuit and other Vail applications.

Roundtop Mountain Resort is seeking a motivated safety-driven leader focused on both employee and guest experiences, to join our Lift Experience team as an Assistant Manager, Lift Experience. This is a winter seasonal hourly leadership position that plays a critical role in delivering exceptional guest experiences while ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional operation of lift loading, unloading, and ticket scanning operations throughout the resort.

The Assistant Manager provides direct leadership and support to Lift Experience Team Leads, Lift Operators, and Scanning Attendants, fostering a culture centered on safety, accountability, employee engagement, and world-class guest service. This position is responsible for supervising daily operations, coaching and developing employees, supporting staffing and scheduling efforts, addressing guest concerns, and ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory safety standards.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who thrives in a fast-paced outdoor environment, leads by example, builds high-performing teams, and is passionate about creating memorable experiences for both guests and employees.

  • Guest Experience Leadership

Employee Experience & Leadership
  • Directly hire and supervise Lift Experience Leads, Lift Operators, and Scanning Attendants.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, recognition, and inclusion.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees to improve performance, confidence, and leadership skills.
  • Conduct daily assignments, operational briefings, and safety meetings.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback, recognition, coaching, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention initiatives.
  • Support the professional development of frontline leaders and identify future leadership talent.
Lift & Scanning Operations
  • Oversee daily lift operations and ticket scanning functions to ensure safe and efficient guest flow.
  • Support staffing plans and scheduling to meet operational and business demands.
  • Ensure lifts, mazes, loading areas, unloading areas, and scanning locations meet operational standards.
  • Monitor weather, terrain, and operational conditions and adjust staffing and procedures accordingly.
  • Support opening, operating, and closing procedures for assigned areas.
  • Ensure proper use and operation of scanning equipment and ticket validation systems.
  • Maintain operational readiness and consistency throughout the day.
Safety & Compliance
  • Serve as a role model for safety and operational excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, ANSI, OSHA requirements, state regulations, and established operating procedures.
  • Conduct routine operational, service, and safety audits.
  • Identify and address hazards, operational risks, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Assist with incident response, investigations, documentation, and follow-up actions.
  • Promote safe work practices and reinforce a strong safety culture among all employees.
  • Ensure employees maintain proper appearance standards, equipment usage, and operating procedures.
  • Partner closely with Mountain Operations leadership, Ski Patrol, Mountain Maintenance, Snow Surfaces, and other departments.
  • Communicate operational updates, safety concerns, staffing needs, and mountain-wide information effectively.
  • Lead departmental meetings and leadership development initiatives.
  • Complete required operational reports, inspections, and documentation accurately and timely.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with seasonal opening and closing activities.
  • Support emergency operations and mountain-wide initiatives when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory or management experience in lift operations, mountain operations, attractions, hospitality, or resort operations.
  • Experience managing employee schedules and staffing plans.
  • Knowledge of lift operations, ticket scanning systems, and guest service standards.
  • Experience coaching, developing, and retaining frontline employees.
  • Strong conflict resolution and leadership skills.
