Overview
The HR Assistant Manager supports plant leadership by delivering comprehensive human resources services across employee relations, recruitment, training, performance management, and legal compliance. This role serves as a trusted advisor to management while acting as an advocate for employees, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies, procedures, and employment laws. The HR Assistant Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a positive workplace culture, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Assist with the development and implementation of HR policies to ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws
- Provide guidance and counseling to management on discipline, performance management, and fair employment practices
- Review performance evaluations and termination recommendations to ensure legal and policy compliance
- Investigate employee concerns and deliver critical conversations in accordance with company policies
- Coordinate responses to unemployment claims and represent the company during appeals hearings
Performance Management & Training
- Monitor and support the performance management process, providing guidance and training to managers and supervisors
- Facilitate management and employee training programs including sexual harassment prevention, Drug-Free Workplace, FMLA, and policy-related training
- Develop and update job descriptions as needed to support organizational requirements
Recruitment & Workforce Support
- Assist with recruitment efforts and manage job posting programs
- Serve as an advocate for employee needs by providing guidance on policies, benefits, and workplace resources
- Coordinate company-sponsored employee events to support engagement and positive associate morale
Reporting & Safety Support
- Complete and maintain monthly KPI reports
- Promote company policies and procedures to help maintain a safe and compliant work environment
Education & Professional Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related discipline preferred; PHR/SPHR certification a plus
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR regulatory requirements
- Working knowledge of core HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, and performance management
- Basic understanding of Time and Attendance systems

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally across all levels of the organization
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
- Proven ability to analyze issues, identify solutions, and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HR-related computer systems
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Human Resources leadership or supervisory role
- Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to work overtime during weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (50–80%) and sit as required (approximately 20%)
- Ability to bend and move throughout the facility
- Ability to work in hot, cold, and noisy industrial environments
