Job summary

Reddick Public Library District in Ottawa, IL seeks a forward-thinking Assistant Director to lead daily library operations. The exempt role reports to the Director, supports budgeting, HR, and grants, and fosters community partnerships.

A Master’s in Library Science is preferred, with a Bachelor’s in a relevant field and supervisory experience as plus. Flexibility to schedule evenings/weekends, drive to community events, and manage staff are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s in Library Science (ALA accredited) preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with equivalent experience.
• Public library supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong public service, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Proficient with MS Office; capable with Internet/search tools.
• English fluency required; Spanish desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assists Director with day-to-day library operations.
• Supervises Technical Services & Technology staff; heads Interlibrary Loan.
• Oversees local history collections and records retention.
• Assists in budget preparation and financial administration.
• HR support including payroll procedures; prepares reports.
• Plans meetings, community outreach, and grant activities.
