Job summary

The City of Irving is seeking a seasoned Inspections Supervisor to lead field inspection operations, supervise staff, and ensure timely, accurate code compliance. You will provide technical guidance, training inspectors in code interpretation, customer communication and conflict resolution, and establish positive relationships with contractors, property owners and residents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Public Administration, Building Construction, Architecture, Engineering or related field.
• Five years of related inspection experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
• Must possess ICC certifications and a valid driver’s license.
• Must obtain ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) certification within 12 months of hire and maintain it.

Responsibilities

• Manage field inspection operations and supervise staff to ensure timely, accurate inspections and code compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and training to inspectors in code interpretation, conflict resolution and customer communication.
• Establish positive relationships with contractors, property owners and residents, and resolve escalated complaints.
• Oversee construction inspections and Building and Standards Commission processes.
• Assist with budget preparation, code/ordinance updates, and fleet operations, and represent the department before boards and commissions.
