Job summary

The City of Irving is seeking a senior inspections leader to manage field inspection operations and supervise staff, ensuring timely, accurate inspections and code compliance across the department.

You will train inspectors in code interpretation, customer communication, and conflict resolution while building positive relationships with contractors, owners and residents. The role also covers construction inspections, committee processes, performance evaluation and budget input.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Public Administration, Building Construction, Architecture, Engineering or related field.
• Five years of related inspection experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
• Valid state-issued driver's license and ICC certifications in building, residential, energy conservation or related fields.
• Must obtain ICC CBO certification within 12 months of hire and maintain it.

Responsibilities

• Manage field inspection operations and supervise staff.
• Ensure timely, consistent and accurate inspections and code compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and training inspectors in code interpretation, customer communication and conflict resolution.
• Establish positive relationships with contractors, property owners and residents.
• Investigate and resolve complaints and complex compliance issues through sound judgment and effective communication.
• Oversee construction inspections and Building and Standards Commission processes.
• Evaluate operational performance and implement service improvements.
• Assist with code and ordinance updates, departmental fleet operations and input for budget; represent the department before boards.
