Summary
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager positions are primarily responsible for fulfilling our mission: “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” They perform various sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management, such as cashiering, merchandise display, register procedures, and routine cleaning. They work closely with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership. These roles share responsibilities in training and motivating Teammates and acting as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT role, involving additional high-level duties, though most responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
- Greet Guests warmly and consistently provide legendary service.
- Answer questions confidently regarding store merchandise.
- Assist Guests in locating and selecting merchandise based on their needs.
- Anticipate Guest needs and suggest additional items to enhance their experience.
- Demonstrate product knowledge and share sales education with the Team.
- Stay informed about current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices.
- Maintain personal sales goals and contribute to team sales targets.
- Provide excellent service in all areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register.
- Understand and effectively execute exchange and return procedures, turning them into showmanship opportunities.
- Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to meet goals.
- Engage in guest loyalty programs and promote store credit options.
- Build and maintain strong Guest relationships to develop a client-based business.
- Lead by example with showmanship, service, and attentiveness.
- Recognize Guest levels and communicate them to the Team.
- Ask business-driven questions to Managers and Teammates to improve sales and showmanship.
- Be coachable and open to feedback for continuous improvement.
- Perform leadership actions consistently, regardless of Manager presence.
- Collaborate with the Store Manager to set sales goals and own store performance metrics.
- Demonstrate passion for product education and showmanship to drive results.
Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
- Identify recruiting opportunities using various tools and referrals.
- Build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred programs.
- Assist in training and motivating new Teammates to meet Buckle standards.
- Maintain a positive, motivating store culture.
- Model and coach the latest fashion trends and store dress code.
- Participate in daily setup, training, and performance reviews.
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks.
- Demonstrate and coach denim showmanship and fit card results.
- Develop departmental results and track progress through scheduled check-ins.
- Execute departmental actions and delegate tasks using calendars and worksheets.
- Engage guests with product demonstrations and store tours.
- Recognize and act on visual merchandising opportunities.
- Ensure the sales floor displays are current and freight is appropriately managed.
Operations
- Maintain flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts as needed.
- Utilize planning tools and complete opening/closing checklists.
- Recognize and prevent security risks and thefts following Loss Prevention guidelines.
- Handle POS procedures accurately and efficiently.
- Manage calls from Corporate Office professionally.
- Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations.
- Follow policies on payments, returns, exchanges, and Loss Prevention.
- Navigate and utilize store tools effectively.
- Ensure all shifts are covered and the store remains clean, organized, and shoppable.
- Report merchandise concerns and policy violations promptly.
- Complete all new hire paperwork per HR guidelines.
- Assist in merchandise markdowns, freight management, and inventory control.
- Build strong communication with Corporate Departments for store operations.
- Monitor and maintain store supplies and handle emergencies as needed.
Supervisory and Leadership
- Provide and accept feedback constructively.
- Support Leadership and promote store growth.
- Maintain professionalism and stability with all Teammates.
- Conduct interviews and support team development.
- Overcome objections and solve problems effectively.
- Self-educate on company tools and share knowledge with others.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Assist the Store Manager in supervising the team.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; 1-3 months retail experience or equivalent.
Physical Demands
Regularly stand, walk, handle objects, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk/hear. Occasionally sit. Ability to lift/maneuver 50 lbs. Visual acuity required. Work environment is a moderate noise retail setting.
