The Assistant Housekeeping Shift Supervisor serves as the lead worker for an assigned shift and assists the Housekeeping Shift Supervisor with the daily coordination of housekeeping operations. This position provides work direction, training, quality inspections, and operational support while also performing custodial duties.
The Assistant Shift Supervisor helps ensure assigned facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming condition and supports the supervisor in maintaining productivity, customer service, safety, and quality standards.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel under College policy and is required to respond during inclement weather, emergency events, and other campus operational needs.
Regular Work Schedule:
2nd Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m.- 10:30pm. Weekend and overtime work may be required based on operational needs.
Duties:
Daily Operations
- Assist with coordinating daily work assignments and building coverage.
- Assign and prioritize routine and special project work.
- Monitor completion of assigned work and adjust assignments as operational needs change.
- Perform quality inspections of completed work.
- Assist with event support and project scheduling.
- Ensure custodial supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained.
Leadership
- Provide day-to-day direction and guidance to housekeeping staff.
- Train new employees in cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices.
- Demonstrate proper custodial methods and departmental standards.
- Assist with onboarding new employees.
- Promote teamwork and positive employee relations.
- Communicate departmental expectations and operational updates.
Custodial Support
- Perform all duties of a Housekeeper II as operational needs require.
- Assist with specialized floor care and project work.
- Respond to customer requests and building concerns.
Safety & Compliance
- Monitor compliance with departmental procedures and safety regulations.
- Report equipment issues and facility deficiencies.
- Assist with incident documentation.
- Support emergency response and inclement weather operations.
Administrative Support
- Assist the Shift Supervisor with attendance monitoring, supply inventories, work orders, and operational documentation.
- Provide input regarding employee performance and training needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible custodial experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
- Experience in training or leading employees preferred.
Working conditions & physical demands:
- Works in moderate noise all around campus, indoor and outdoor.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, use of repetitive motions and operating cleaning equipment.
- Often lifts 10-50 lbs objects.
- May be required to work during periods of inclement weather.
- May be required to work weekends.
